Grooming Report 3/6

March 6, 2020

There is still plenty of coverage to get in some skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking this weekend!

The snow pack has taken a bit of a hit with the recent mild temps but there is still plenty of coverage to get in some skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking this weekend!

The windows for solid riding surfaces can be pretty narrow this time of year and if temperatures drop for long enough to set up the trails, early morning rides are ideal. Evening temps look to be cold enough to make for some pretty solid trail surfaces both Saturday and Sunday morning. Once the strong March sun gets higher in the sky and daytime temps rise to above the freezing mark the surface tends to loosen up and can create some challenging conditions. If you find yourself compromising the trails too much on your ride, consider turning back.

Please remember to keep an eye out for where fat bikes are restricted. There are signs on the trails in the appropriate locations and if you have any questions please stop in to the Winter Welcome Center.

GROOMING
The mild weather can often present challenging conditions to groom as the snow pack changes and surfaces become variable with the fluctuations in temps. The groomers will be out working the trails in order to create the best conditions possible and hope that Mother Nature will help out and do her part by providing some cooler temps to help set up the trails for the weekend.

Vermont State Treasurer, Mike Pieciak, speaks at the 2025 Outdoor Recreation Day at the Statehouse
By Abby Long February 13, 2025
KT is taking action—on the trails and in the Statehouse! This 2025 Legislative Session, KT is teaming up with other amazing trail organizations through the Vermont Trails & Greenway Council, to advocate for H.147 a bill to establish the Recreational Trails Compensation Study. Why does this matter? Vermont’s outdoor recreation economy generates $2.1B annually, nearly 5% of the state’s GDP, that's 2nd in the nation after Hawaii (Go VT!) KT alone drives $10M in economic impact annually. Therefore, the state must recognize and incentivize these generous private landowners, including the 106 who make KT possible and allow public access to trails.
