About this event:

Created by Lilias

Race or just ride a fun big 7 km “CX” loop for cyclocross or mountain bikes at Victory Hill on the edge of Kingdom Trails network in the NEK Vermont backcountry.

DISTANCES
26 or 13 kilometers (4 or 2 laps)  Winners completed the 24 km race in 95 minutes in 2014.
A 3 kilometer kid’s loop for 11 and under (Kids are rewarded for laps completed, not times)

USAC Cycling licenses are not required. The race is insured under Kingdom Trails policy and all riders will be issued special Kingdom Trails day passes for this event.

COURSE: The 7 km loop is comprised of 3 km of dirt road followed by a gravel pit turnaround and then 3 km of hilly CX trail in an abandoned farm field on Victory Hill and then 1 km of  singletrack. Short climbs, barriers,a sandpit  as well as singletrack provide technical challenges. This loop is designed for CX bikes, gravel bikes and hardtail MTBs.The initial edition of BCX was described by participants as a less technical XC MTB course. This year it is a little more favorable to CX bikes, including fast sections and more dirt road.

TRAIL CONDITIONS: Mostly 10/4 loose granular dirt churned up by some motocross bike on a rough track dirt through the field. The singletrack section has some roots and rocks.  The dirt road is rough and sandy in places. Nothing a 35C or 40C can’t easily handle.

EQUIPMENT: CX bikes with 35c-42C tires or hardtail MTBs with light 1.95 or 2.0 tires are recommended. We don’t know which type of bike is actually faste. The course much lumpier than a suburban cyclocross course. With n200+ ft of elevation gain per lap, you may need gearing of 34x32T or 39x36T to sit down and feel comfortable on the pitches in the middle of the circuit.

PRIZES: Cash prizes and yellow winners jerseys by Vermarc, donated by a belgian team for the Womens, Mens and Master’s 40+, Open (2 Lap) and Junior Categories. Cash payout will be 50% of entry fees gathered in respective categories. For example if 30 riders are registered in a category and $900 is gathered, then the prize list will be $450 spread over 7 places or a  120-80-70-60-50-40-30 split. The more riders the bigger the cash prize list. Bicycle themed T-shirt prizes imported from Indonesia will be also offered to top finishers in each category.*If fewer than 20 riders are registered in any category there will be half as many places offered as entrants.
