Voted Vermont’s Best MTB Race in 2014 & 2015 by VT Sports Reader
The 8th annual Circumburke Mountain Bike and Trail Run Challenge is happening this year on October 14th.
A couple of weeks earlier than usual, this year’s Circumburke could actually dodge the inevitable horrendous weather that has become par for the course with this event. This year, the event is capped at 500 people to protect the integrity of the trail system and although entry fee is currently $55, on Sept 14, the fee goes up to $65, on October 1st the fee changes to $75, and on site reg. is $85. So you might as well just sign up now! Your registration gives you course and lunch.
The Circumburke Challenge starts at Burke Mtn Resort base lodge leading bikers and runners on a combination of singletrack and doubletrack halfway up Burke and over the back side to the newly developed Victory Hill Sector trail network.
And tradition dictates a new pint glass for each year commemorating the trek.
From there, the route continues around Burke Mtn on the Umpire Mtn side eventually finishing back at Burke Mtn Resort 26 miles later. In the past, timing has been supplied by our favorite timing crew, the “Old Timers.” But this year, the event will also double as the Old Timers Retirement party so they’re off the hook. This year’s timing will be provided by the same company that does the VT50.
The hardiest of bikers will then continue around the course a second time for a 52 mile ride.
The Circumburke course is just like it sounds… a challenge. For some, it’s an extremely demanding all out race pace experience. And for some, it’s an extremely demanding stroll. But everyone agrees that it is difficult AND a blast no matter how long it takes.
For those that choose to lollygaggle, there are 4 aid stations stocked with anything from hot coffee to grilled cheese sandwiches depending on what is donated and who your friendly aid station attendant may be…
At the finish line, Market Cafe will greet you with hot soup and delicious wraps, included in the race fee. While KT house band Tritium Well plays music and Burke Mtn Resort serves draft beers.
Join us for the ride/run or help us make the fun by volunteering.
